Located in the Basin of Badlands National Park, at the base of spires and amidst the prairie grasslands, you'll find Cedar Pass Lodge. The lodge provides a luxurious respite from camping and long drives, and you won't even have to sacrifice being surrounded by natural beauty. Cedar Pass Lodge is a must stop on your trip to Badlands National Park.

Cedar Pass Lodge was built in 1928, long before Badlands National Monument was established. The brainchild of local businessman Ben Millard, the lodge was originally started as a dance hall that attracted people from a hundred miles away. Patrons came to listen to Lawrence Welk and other bands of that era. Later, Millard expanded the dance hall to include the dining hall and cabins. Each night Millard would provide the guests with geology talks and discussions. For his volunteer geology teachings, Millard was awarded the title of first "interpreter" of Badlands National Park.

Cedar Pass Lodge offers 22 historic cabins and is located mere steps away from hiking trails. Although there are no private phones and televisions, you'll be pampered with heat and air conditioning, a coffee pot, and hot bath.

Even if you do not decide to stay the night, you won't want to miss the homemade Indian fry-bread and seasoned buffalo tacos that are made at the Cedar Pass Restaurant. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Stop by for a snack or a hearty authentic meal.

Rates at Cedar Pass Lodge vary from season to season. Spring and fall rates range from $55 through $80. Summer rates range from $65 through $90. You can choose between different accommodations from cabins to cottages. For reservations, call (605) 433-5460. Cedar Pass Lodge is located next to the Cedar Pass Contact Station.
