Located in South Dakota near the Mount Rushmore area in the Black Hills is the historic Ice Cave. It is listed on the national registry as a historical site historic significance to the Native American and prehistoric culture in the area. The area is currently owned by the federal government.

The Ice Cave which is located near the Black Hills in South Dakota is noted for it possible archeological traits. It is currently owned by the federal government and they are investigating its potential to provide information about prehistoric Native Americans.

It is though that the area may be able to contribute to information concerning 499-0 AD, 1000-500 AD, 1499-1000 AD and 1749-1500 AD. It is also thought that the area may have been a ceremonial site at one time.

The Ice Cave currently functions as a recreational area with fantastic views and scenery.
