Crazy Horse Monument Contributions
Crazy Horse Memorial is a unique monument because it relies solely on visitor admission fees and private grants to fund its operation. The foundation accepts no federal or state funds or gifts. In the past the Crazy Horse Memorial has received generous gifts in the form of construction equipment and supplies from corporations. Various corporations have donated bulldozers, excavators, drills, and air compressors. Much of the equipment used on the mountain is now over 30 years old but without these donations, the project would not have continued along as it has.
The Crazy Horse monument was originally designed by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to be a humanitarian project so that it would tell a story from Native American history. The memorial is a non-profit educational and cultural project with three main goals. The most obvious is the actual mountain carving but the foundation has also founded the ever-growing Indian Museum of North America as well as the Indian University and Medical Training Center of North America. Every time you visit the memorial you are supporting the Crazy Horse Memorial as well as other educational and cultural projects. Enjoy viewing art and experience Crazy Horse's story. He spent his life defending his people and their way of life.
