Crazy Horse Memorial is located 17 miles southwest of Mt. Rushmore along US 16/385 in the Black Hills in South Dakota. The facilities include the actual building site, the Indian Museum of North America, and the Indian University and Medical Training Center of North America. There is a large orientation center where many Native American artists sell art and crafts. The dream of the sculptor, Korczak Ziolkowski was to create a humanitarian project that would demonstrate Crazy Horse's dedication to his people as well as share Native American history with the public.
Thunderhead Mountain, the site of the Crazy Horse Memorial, relies only on admission fees from visitors and grants for its operation and construction. No federal or state funds are accepted whatsoever. Adult admission fees are $10 each or $24 per carload. Children under 6 can enter for free. Senior rates are $9 or $21 per carload. Motorcycles are charged a fee of $5 per rider and people entering the monument on foot or bicycle have a fee of $4. For more information contact (605)673-4681.
