Here you will be treated to first-rate theater including comedy, drama and music. Come and enjoy New York quality at South Dakota prices.
The Black Hills Playhouse is a non-profit professional summer theatre and training program located in the spectacular Custer State Park, South Dakota. Founded in 1946 by Dr. Warren M. ("Doc") Lee, the original buildings had served since 1933 as a part of the Civilian Conservation Crops (CCC). In the beginning, the buildings housed the performers and the Playhouse toured their productions.
Now, through the assistance of civic-mined individuals and the University of South Dakota, the Black Hills Playhouse performs each summer at their permanent location. They mark their 62nd year in 2007, which makes The Black Hills Playhouse one of the oldest, continuously operated summer stock theatres in America. Typically, the season runs from June through August each year.
All performances begin at 8 pm so there is plenty of time for a wonderful meal prior to the performance. Please be aware that attendees at The Black Hill Playhouse must pay a Park Entrance Fee in addition to the fees charged at the Playhouse.
