Spearfish South Dakota Arts Center

The Spearfish Arts Center is also called the Spearfish Center for the Arts and Humanities.  It is a combination of societies and organizations that provide entertainment, artistical wonders and cultural events for people of all ages.  In fact, the center offers a wide variety of things to do and see, as well as opportunities to showcase personal talents from across Spearfish in South Dakota.

South Dakota is home to the community of Spearfish and its renowned Spearfish Arts Center.  The arts center covers a diverse range of community, cultural and humanitarian events, activities and organizations which provide the local area and tourists with entertainment and fun that is second to none.

Established in the late 1990’s, the Spearfish Arts Center merged together two main organizations to strengthen and consolidate joint visions for arts and humanities in Spearfish.  The area’s arts and humanities council merged with the Matthews Opera House Society to form what has become a major artistic entertainment hub for Spearfish and its surrounding areas.

The Spearfish Arts Center hosts such events as the Annual Festival in the Park and the Annual Foreign Film Festival.  The opera season runs throughout the year and has seen numerous internationally renowned productions.  Movie goers also enjoy a variety of films, ranging from international and foreign film festival winners to local mainstream productions.

The Spearfish Arts Center has an active theatrical season.  Visitors can enjoy live performances of musicals, operas and stage productions.  The resident Spearfish Art Center Gallery hosts varied art festivals and events all year round, not just showcasing international and national artistic talents, but local artworks from across the region.  Concert lovers can enjoy a variety of musical performances, ranging from rock to classical.

The center is open daily from Monday to Saturday.  Performances, shows, concerts and other events are on hand from about 10am to 5pm.  Tickets are available through the local box office or online.  Special seasonal and other passes are also available for a nominal fee.

The Spearfish Arts Center is always looking for new talent, performances and events.  Special classrooms are on site for artists, private individuals, groups and school children, offering beginners to expert level art and music classes.

Because of its devotion to the arts and humanities, the Spearfish Arts Center has residences for artists and students of art throughout the year.  Artwork can be displayed with limited notice in the art gallery and event space can be booked via the center’s local office.
