Heart of the Hills Celebration & Logging Show
Hill City, South Dakota claims to have a population of 800 people, 1 old train and 15 dinosaurs' skeletons and skulls. In addition, they have one of the most fun, way out west celebrations in all of the Black Hills region – the Heart of the Hills Celebration and Logging Show.
The event starts with a parade down the main street. Men, women and children line the street to get a look at the fantastic floats, cars and other mobile displays. Then classic cars line the street, so you can get a good look at them.
Later in the day and into the evening professional and amateur loggers compete against each other and the clock in various logging competitions. Some of those events are Men's Stock Saw Bucking, Women's Stock Saw Bucking, Tree Falling, Prelim's Women's Axe Throw, Prelim's Men's Axe Throw, Men's Choker Setting, Women's Choker Setting, Truck Block Stack and Truck Block Toss. Further events include Precision Piling, Men's Pole Throw, Women's Pole Throw, Open Class 1 Bucking, Open Class 2 Bucking, Finals Women's Axe Throw, Finals Men's Axe Throw, Relay Race and Tug-O-War.
It is a celebration of the history and value that the logging industry has played in the region. Come enjoy the good family fun. You might want to bring a sun hat, chairs and or picnic blankets.
