Formerly the Black Hills Marathon, now known as the Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Marathon, this annual event is a highlight of the year for runners around the region.  Orginally held in conjuction with the Crazy Horse Half Marathon, it is now a combined event.  Awards are given to the top male and female finishers for overall, masters, age groups, top Native American finisher, and top South Dakotan finisher. There are also awards for businesses, groups, organizations, or clubs with the highest number of participants.

The marathon course was changed in 2005. The course now starts at Mount Rushmore and finishes at the Crazy Horse Memorial. Inspiration should come to the runners as they realize the effort that went into building these huge monuments. There are areas for friends and family to view the race which includes Mount Rushmore, Hill City, and the Crazy Horse Memorial.

Rather you plan on coming to run or only to watch, Mount Rushmore provides the perfect setting for a marathon.
