Overview
The Gutzon Borglum Story exhibit follows the life and work of Mount Rushmore sculptor, Gutzon Borglum. A 20 minute self-guided tour gives you insight into the sculptor’s personal history and family life, as well as the vision and process involved in order to carve such a mountain masterpiece. Learn how the Rushmore sculptor planned and executed the successful carving and stand next to the full-sized eye of Abraham Lincoln – an exact replica from Mt. Rushmore. Complete your visit by enjoying a 22-minute narrated film featuring original news reel footage from the time of the construction.
Location/Directions
Borglum Historical Center is located at 342 Winter Street, in Keystone, SD, approximately 2.5 miles northeast of Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
From Mt. Rushmore, travel northeast on SD-244 towards Doane Mountain Road for 1.7 miles. Bear left onto US-16A and travel north for 1 mile, before turning right onto Winter Street.
