D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery
Visit D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery, see how live fisheries work, and learn the history of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department. When the hatchery opened in 1896 it was known as the Spearfish National Fish Hatchery. Its mission was to stock and create a larger trout population within the Black Hills of South Dakota.
It shut down in the 1980s and decided to reopen and work in unison with the state to stock rivers and lakes in the Black Hills. Since its reopening it seeks to educate the public through its preservation of artifacts and historical exhibits in its museum. By visiting the hatchery you can view Rainbow and Brown trout through underwater windows. The D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery offers free admission from May to September between the hours of 9am and 6pm. It is located next to Spearfish City Park in South Dakota.
