High Plains Western Heritage Center
Come to the High Plains Western Heritage Center in Spearfish and enjoy indoor and outdoor displays and exhibits. The museum was originally designed to honor American Indians and old west pioneers who lived in the Great Plains and the Black Hills. Pass through exhibits of Western art like landscapes, life on the plains, and portraits. Also enjoy artifacts and tools used in mining and working the land.
Outside of the main building there is a log cabin and a single room school house open for viewing. A small animal farm is open in the summer where you can view buffalo and longhorns up close and personal. The center is located in Spearfish and is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm. For more information you can call them at (605) 642-9378. Visit the center and get a feel for what life was like on the high plains back in the day.
