Area Ski Resorts

The Black Hills region of South Dakota is probably not the first location that comes to mind when you are planning a skiing vacation. However, it should be. The Black Hills actually shelter part of the state, particularly that area around Rapid City, South Dakota, so the winters there are mild. But just a few miles away and a few thousand feet higher in elevation is a virtual winter wonderland. This area receives approximately 220 inches of snow each winter and the most is made of it!

Located in this amazing area are two well known ski resorts – Mystic Miner Ski Resort at Deer Mountain (formerly, Deer Mountain Ski Area), and Terry Peak Ski Area. Although they vary somewhat in the type of terrain available, each area offers a vast variety of slopes that can accommodate the beginner skier to the more experienced skier.

Lodging and places to eat are located at each area. If you are just learning this wonderful winter sport, skiing, or want to prefect your skill, lessons can be taken at either Mystic Miner or Terry Peak. If you have forgotten your ski equipment or are looking to try out some new equipment, rental shops are present that can accommodate your need.

It may not have been the first location that came to mind, but once you experience what the Black Hills of South Dakota has to offer for a winter skiing vacation, you will be reminded each season, of what a good choice you made.
