Don't think you have missed out on all the fun if you aren't going to be in Sturgis during the Motorcycle Rally. There are still many things to do in Sturgis, South Dakota. Go on a hike or have a picnic lunch in the Black Hills National Forest or Bear Butte State Park. Visit the non-profit Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame. It is open daily all year so you can lose yourself within its classic bikes, photos, and memorabilia anytime. Another great museum to check out is at Fort Meade. You can also visit history at the Black Hills National Cemetery. Once the sun sets, there are many more attractions that welcome visitors. Restaurants and bars are full of life every night. You won't find a dull moment at a local's favorite in the downtown area.
Whether you have traveled to Sturgis on a motorcycle or by car the surrounding area is like a never ending scenic tour. Tours through the Black Hills or along the National Back Country Byway can be magical and breathtaking. Here are a few ideas for scenic tours and their distances from Sturgis. If you don't have much time check out Buffalo Chip, 5 miles, Bear Butte State Park, 7 miles, or Fort Mead, only one mile from downtown. For a longer day tour visit Mt. Rushmore, 60 miles away, Crazy Horse at 70 miles, Custer State Park at 72 miles, Devil's Tower is 81miles away, or Hot Springs, which is 84 miles from downtown. Visit this historic and beautiful place anytime of year.
