Internet Access
The South Dakota Black Hills is so much more than Mount Rushmore and amazing views and activities. What would the famous presidents, whose faces are carved for time in memoriam on the face of Mount Rushmore, say to the latest technological innovations that connect visitors and locals with those thousands of miles away, namely the Internet? Access is common place in most lodgings, but there are other locations in the surrounding towns that provide Wi-Fi and broadband access for tourists and business travelers.
With almost ten thousand places to stay, from log cabins to luxury suites, the Black Hills area of South Dakota is a paradise suited for all people and varied budgets. Each one is hooked up to the Internet with broadband or Wi-Fi connections, and even the local bed and breakfasts have included Internet access in their lists of amenities. In fact, with so many travelers packing their laptops, it is no surprise that free access is readily available in stores, cafes and other venues, but the majority are limited to Rapid City, though access can be found in the West Central and Southern Hills areas.
The best location in the West Central Hills for Internet access, Wi-Fi and broadband, includes Timber Lodge Retreats and Dry Creek Coffee at 104 Elm Street in Hill City. In the Southern Hills, the town of Custer has one good location, the Songbird Cafe at 440 Mount Rushmore Road. However, the largest selection is found in Rapid City. These include every Burger King and Taco Johns, Java Junkie (2060 West Main), The Firehouse Brewing Company (610 Main), Dunn Brothers Coffee (719 Omaha Street), Black Hills Bagels (913 Mount Rushmore Road), Enigma Restaurant (445 Mt. Rushmore Road), Cafe Latte (1301 West Omaha Street), Boston's Restaurant & Sports Bar (620 East Disk Drive), Rushmore Mall (in the food court and close to the Security/Guest Services desk), "The Body" Builder Christian Bookstore (610 7th Street) and Liberty Motors (600 Campbell Street). The Rapid City Public Library (610 Quincy St) has a large collection of computers with broadband access, free to use during business hours, but there is also a Wi-Fi signal that can be accessed within and just immediately around the building.
