Showers & Laundry
Two amenities most sought after by the avid outdoorsman who elects to spend his nights out under the stars are a hot shower and a laundromat. The area of the Black Hills of South Dakota is filled with wonderful things to see and wonderful things to do, but it may take a little effort to find that cleansing facility for your body and your clothes.
There are numerous campgrounds in the area of the Black Hills/Badlands of South Dakota. These campgrounds, campsites, trailer parks, RV parks and other outdoor recreation accommodations in South Dakota provide great places to stay which puts the visitor/camper in close proximity to Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Mountain, Sturgis Bike Week and other attractions throughout the area. Whether you are staying at a U.S. Forest Service Campground or at a privately owned campground, many of them have bathhouses complete with hot showers and laundry facilities. Even if you are not a guest at one of the camping facilities, it may be possible to grab a hot shower for a minimal fee and to do a load of clothes.
If you are traveling on a budget while visiting the great attractions and natural wonders of the Black Hills, check into staying at a Hostel. Hostels cater primarily to adventurous travelers, young and old, who are on a budget, and find this a great way to meet new people and experience the world in a new way. Hikers, cyclists, bikers, families, couples and small groups can usually be accommodated and although you are "sharing space" with others, the rooms often come complete with showers and laundry facilities.
Check for local laundromats in the surrounding communities of Rapid City, Spearfish, Deadwood, and Lead.
