Kids Winter Fun
There are four different and special season in the wonderful outdoors of the Black Hills of South Dakota. Winter is one of the best. Winter is a great time to plan a family vacation in South Dakota. Temperatures in the Black Hills are usually warmer than the rest of South Dakota. An occasional snow storm comes through the area, but the temperatures warm quickly, allowing you to venture outside and enjoy all that winter has to offer. The Hills are definitely alive even in the winter.
Bring the whole family. There are many activities for the kids which include all types of skiing and even tubing at some of the Ski Resorts. Kids can try their hand at ice fishing,
ice skating, snowshoeing and other fun recreational activities. The kids can become a Junior Ranger and take part in special programs at Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave's or the Badlands National Park. There's nothing quite like stopping in at the Gold Rush Era towns of Deadwood and Lead to get a feel for the old west. Exploration by snowmobile of the Black Hills' hidden byways has also become a popular activity in winter and one that can be enjoyed by all ages. Pathways are groomed every night in the winter. Snowmobile servicing, rentals, and guides are available, as are pit stops, gas, warming shelters, trailheads, and parking. Pack the kids on board and take a tour of the winter wonderland.
If you would like to spend some time indoors out of the colder weather, there are a multitude of museums and attractions for your family. Your kids can enjoy exploring a gold mine, go gold panning, investigate a reptile sanctuary, or check out the motorcycles of years gone by.
Traveling with kids can be great fun when you plan ahead and investigate all the kid activities and events that exist in the Black Hills area. Once they come, your kids will want to return every year.
