Overview
Located nearly in the center of the Black Hills Region and nearly in the center of the attractions of the Black Hills, Hill City bills itself as the “Heart of the Hills”. Hill City is also known for being the spot where ghosts are thought to frequent – especially at the Hill City High School, the 1880 Train and at two local bars.

Hill City can be found along Highway 16, just 27 miles southwest of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Despite its small population – roughly 1000 inhabitants - Hill City has a large inventory of motels, campgrounds, restaurants and attractions. These amenities make it an ideal base camp for touring in the southern Black Hills.

Getting Here
Once you are in Hill City, you are in the midst of the Black Hills. To get to this quaint fun little town exit Interstate 90 at Rapid City and travel along Highway 16 for approximately 27 miles.
